What I'm Fighting For

Infrastructure: Addressing the Fundamentals

Quality infrastructure isn't a luxury—it's essential to our daily lives and our safety. I'm committed to addressing the persistent issues that affect our streets and sidewalks: potholes that damage vehicles, cracked walkways that pose hazards to pedestrians, malfunctioning streetlights that compromise safety, and missing signage that creates dangerous intersections.

These problems don't just frustrate residents—they impact property values and public safety. I'll work diligently to ensure these concerns are reported, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner. Our community deserves infrastructure that works.

Vacant Properties

Abandoned and deteriorating properties diminish our quality of life in measurable ways. They lower surrounding property values, create safety hazards, and can attract unwanted activity to otherwise stable blocks.

I'm committed to working with the city to secure vacant properties and expedite the removal of condemned structures. By addressing blight systematically, we can restore pride in our neighborhoods and create an environment where families want to invest and stay.

Safety: Making Our Streets Safe for Everyone

Every resident should feel safe walking in their own neighborhood. Parents should be able to let their children play outside without worrying about speeding traffic and other dangerous crime situations. Seniors and people with disabilities should have safe ways to navigate our community.

I'm advocating for improved pedestrian infrastructure, including clearly marked crosswalks on high-traffic streets and effective traffic calming measures in residential areas. Public safety starts with thoughtful planning and consistent enforcement. These improvements aren't just about convenience—they can prevent serious injuries and save lives.

A Message from Sabrina

Lorain has always been home for me and for my family. I know many of you share that same deep connection to this city—the sense that despite our challenges, there's something special here worth fighting for.

I see the frustrations you experience. I share your concerns about the condition of our streets, the safety of our neighborhoods, and the feeling that we're not being heard by those in power. But I also see incredible potential in the 5th Ward and in Lorain as a whole.

I'm running for City Council because I believe we can do better, and I'm prepared to put in the work to make it happen. I want to hear your concerns, your ideas, and your vision for our community. This isn't about one person's agenda—it's about bringing our collective priorities to the table and demanding action.

The 5th Ward can be safer, cleaner, and more prosperous. That future is within reach, but it requires committed leadership. I'm ready to serve.

Meet Sabrina Gonzalez

Lifelong Resident, Dedicated Advocate

I'm a lifelong resident of Lorain's 5th Ward, and my family's connection to this community spans generations. My grandparents immigrated from Puerto Rico in the late 1940s to work in the steel mill, and we've been part of Lorain's fabric ever since.

After graduating from Southview High School in 1997, I spent years in various roles serving others. In 2023, I completed my certification at LCCC to become a licensed insurance agent. Throughout my career, I've focused on helping people navigate complex systems and find solutions to their problems—skills I'll bring to City Council.

In recent years, I've become increasingly involved in local issues. I've witnessed firsthand the challenges our residents face: unsafe pedestrian crossings that force families to risk their safety, sidewalks in such disrepair that wheelchair users must navigate through traffic, deteriorating infrastructure that makes daily life more difficult than it should be.

These aren't abstract policy questions to me. I see neighbors struggling with these issues every day, and I know they deserve better. More importantly, I know these problems are solvable—they just require someone willing to be persistent and resourceful in finding solutions.

I've never been someone who accepts "no" as a final answer. When I encounter obstacles, I look for alternative paths forward. That determination, combined with my deep roots in this community, is what drives me to run for City Council.

Lorain has given so much to my family over the decades. Now it's time for me to give back by serving the community that shaped who I am.
